Facial Acupuncture

Acupuncture enhances health by harmonising the body’s natural energy system. Facial Acupuncture uses the same principles to enhance the clarity and natural radiance of the complexion. By using Electro Acupuncture we can produce a strong stimulating effect which moves Qi, enhances blood supply, improves muscle tone and boosts lymphatic drainage. This brings more vitality to the face, both in terms of skin quality and fluidity of facial expression. Facial Acupuncture is unlike Botox or plastic surgery which can restrict the natural mobility of the face.

What is Facial Acupuncture?

Treatment involves the insertion of very fine needles just below the surface of the skin. In most cases the needles are then connected to an Electro-Acupuncture Machine and stimulated with a gentle current. The higher the current, the stronger the treatment, but the intensity and the comfort level of the treatment are under the control of the patient at all times and the procedure is virtually pain free. This phase of the treatment lasts up to 20 minutes and is followed by a facial massage with ‘tiger warmers’, then with scented oils.

There is a range of treatment options:  I recommend electro needles as this method provides the best results in the shortest time. If this is not your preferred method, however, TENS Pads or electro-free needles are available.Constitutional Acupuncture, involving points on the arms or legs, may be given to support  the treatment.Who would benefit?Anyone concerned with looking and feeling younger and slowing down the ageing process. Facial Acupuncture is suitable for those with deep wrinkles, fine lines, bags under the eyes, sagging, puffiness, drooping eyelids, double chin, large pores, dry skin, or acne. Different methods are emphasized and specific points stimulated according to how an individual is ageing.

You and Your Health

Beauty comes from within. Facial Acupuncture is practised with regard to any underlying health conditions and techniques will be adapted accordingly. In some cases we may recommend a course of Traditional Acupuncture alongside or prior to proceeding with Facial Acupuncture.

How Many Sessions?

I recommend 10 consecutive weekly sessions initially. The effects become most noticeable and long-lasting on or about the seventh session. Each person responds differently, depending on his or her condition and lifestyle prior to treatment. Following the initial course of treatment, maintenance sessions at 1-3 month intervals can prolong the results for five to ten years. Each session lasts approximately one hour.

Contraindications

It is contraindicated for individuals who have a pacemaker, heart disorders, diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure, some pituitary disorders, problem with bleeding or bruising, or who currently suffer from migraine headaches. Facial Acupuncture should not be performed during pregnancy, during a bout of cold or flu, during an allergic attack, or an acute herpes outbreak.
